What a day. New centenary shirts for the 2nd team. A first win of the season for the 2s, and a continuation of their winning league run for the 1st XV - unbeaten in the league so far this season.
We also welcomed another new player, David Devine, and had the one off return to the side of Nathan Jackson - both guys played very well in an all round excellent 2s performance.
The first teams fixture was always going to be tough as Hinckley 3s are a talented side, but Ath prevailed with a 45-17 victory. With great training attendance, these results should keep rolling in.
The 2s have had 3 very tough fixtures in the league leading up to Saturday's game, and were looking forward to the fixture vs Melton 3s who are always a good bunch to play against, hoping to beak the losing run. Starting with a more mobile pack than usual, the forwards created a steady platform from which to launch the backline and the team returned with a 66-19 win, including a hatrick for Ben Collins and an almost flawless kicking display by Tom Phipps, kicking all bar one conversion. Next week is a continuation of League action at Birstall.
Then we repaired to the Horse and much fun was had by all.....well maybe not Harry Cooper ;-)
Remember, training on Wednesday at 6.45pm at Nelson Mandela Park.
